ABGD Objectives and Responsibilities <ul><li>To evaluate the standards and advance the science and art of general dentistry by encouraging its study and improving its practice </li></ul><ul><li>To grant and issue certificates in general dentistry to qualified candidates </li></ul><ul><li>To maintain a registry of all dentists certified and to verify the credentials of those certified </li></ul>
  3. 3. ABGD Certificate <ul><li>May be used for credentialing purposes only </li></ul><ul><li>Does not confer legal qualification, privilege or license to practice dentistry </li></ul><ul><li>Shall not be held out to the public as evidence of superior skill and/or knowledge </li></ul>

ABGD Board of Directors <ul><li>Nine-member board </li></ul><ul><li>3-year term </li></ul><ul><ul><li>may be re-elected once for a total of 6 years </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Nominating Committee submits names of best qualified individuals to Board </li></ul><ul><li>Manage business affairs of the ABGD and create and administer the examinations </li></ul>

Qualifying Application <ul><li>Application submitted to the ABGD via one of the Entry Points (I, II, or III) </li></ul><ul><li>Documentation of residency, Mastership status, CDE hours and application fee of $250 </li></ul><ul><li>If accepted, applicant becomes Educationally Qualified </li></ul><ul><li>Limited exceptions allow you to become Conditionally Educationally Qualified </li></ul><ul><li>Have 5 years to pass the written examination after becoming Educationally Qualified </li></ul>

Case Presentation Documentation <ul><li>Digital images or 35 mm slides are acceptable </li></ul><ul><li>Digital images must be at least 600x800 dpi resolution </li></ul><ul><li>Intraoral video camera images are not acceptable </li></ul><ul><li>Pre-treatment and post-treatment images must conform to prescribed views of the ABGD </li></ul>
