UOD Summer Internship for 2007 - Presentation Transcript

    1. Not sure what to do next Summer? Why not get an internship in… NEW YORK LOS ANGELES BARCELONA CHICAGO LONDON SAN FRANCISCO
    2. University of Dreams (UOD) is an American company that will find you the perfect summer internship program in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, London or Barcelona. For eight weeks you can work an internship in one of these locations with housing and meals already covered. But don’t just take our word for it. Matty Reville is a History student at Sheffield University who took part in the Los Angeles program last summer… “ Like many students I was worried going into my final year at uni without having a real idea with what I want to do as a career. About this time last year I started looking for internships on internjobs.com, who gave UOD a “highly recommended” rating.
    3. Event I researched into the program, starting with their website (www.internprograms.com). Internships on offer fell into 19 categories… 1. FIRST STEP: WHAT INTERNSHIP? Fashion Film Finance Interior Design Law/Legal Marketing Music Photography Public Relations Publishing Radio Real Estate Sports Television Theatre/Arts Tourism Advertising Casting Planning
    4. I had to choose which location I should spend the summer before applying for specific positions at companies. Wherever you choose to work, you are put into housing (generally University Halls of Residence) with other people from the program. This includes catering, transportation to and from work, (optional) weekly seminars, professional staff assistance and regular activities on the campus. 2. SECOND STEP: WHERE TO GO?
    5. Seeing as you pay to live their for eight weeks , the decision of which of the six locations to live in is obviously very important. Here’s a quick guide. 2. SECOND STEP: WHERE TO GO? WWW.INTERNPROGRAMS.COM NEW YORK PROs CONs - largest program - best city in the world! - very prestigious firms - most competitive program - starts June 10th WWW.INTERNPROGRAMS.COM SAN FRANCISCO PROs CONs - joint cheapest venue - close to sandy beaches - starts 3 rd June - no overnight trips WWW.INTERNPROGRAMS.COM LOS ANGELES PROs CONs - entertainment capital - lots of nearby beaches - biggest campus (185) - umm… it’s very hot?!? WWW.INTERNPROGRAMS.COM LONDON PROs CONs - live in UCL (central) - not other side of world! - you probably live here! - joint most expensive WWW.INTERNPROGRAMS.COM CHICAGO PROs CONs - beautiful and vibrant city - joint cheapest venue - lots of legal internships - only 1 overnight trip WWW.INTERNPROGRAMS.COM BARCELONA PROs CONs - great if language student - completely diff culture - must speak Spanish - joint most expensive
    6. Each of the programs are massively different, but all include a tour of the city, 1-2 overnight trips (e.g. LA  Vegas) and a trip to a professional sports event. Each location has a trip/activity planned for every weekend. There’s no way for me to tell you which one would suit you best. For specific info, check the website. I decided to go to LA. After this decision, I was given a ‘Placement Agent’. 3. THIRD STEP: WHAT INTERNSHIP? Each successful applicant to UOD is given a member of staff to present them with options available in the desired location. My Placement Agent was Bryce Henson (left). Bryce guaranteed that he would place me in my industry of choice or they’d refund any fees. He also told me that in the six years they have been running summer internship programs, UOD have successfully placed over 99% of its enrolled participants. Bryce then sent an email with the firms UOD is affiliate with.
    7. The company offers over 1,000 internships across it’s six programs. Even on the LA program there’s so many I’ve had to scale it down to ridiculous proportions, but I’ve emphasised some of the most famous ones. 3. THIRD STEP: WHAT INTERNSHIP? 20 th Century Fox Billboard Magazine Hilton Hotels National Lampoon New Line Cinema CBS Jennifer Lopez Fashion LA Film Festival Make A Wish Hollywood Reporter Jim Henson Company Barclays Bank BMG BMI Comedy Central Levi’s The Athletes Agency Sony MTV Warrior Records Universal Music Fox
    8. I asked Bryce to set up interviews with three potential firms. All three offered me a job, and I spent last summer working on Hollywood Boulevard for the Warrior Records record label. 3. THIRD STEP: WHAT INTERNSHIP? The Sports Placement Agency Sports agency representing Mohammed Ali, Mike Tyson, Laila Ali, Joe Namath. MTV Working in the LA office for the world’s biggest Music television channel. Warrior Records Assistant Marketing Director for an independent music label.
    9. In the Warrior Records office with my boss Outside work on Hollywood Boulevard Playing the slots in Vegas Swimming pool at one of our weekend hotels UCLA Campus Meeting Penn & Teller after their Vegas show The staff members at our Halls of Residence
    10. For more information on how you can have the summer of a lifetime, join my Facebook group (called UOD Summer Internships 2007). Also, check out the main UOD website at www.internprograms.com.
