New York Highlanders (1903-1912) NY Highlanders first logo Their first home, Hilltop Park January-March 1903: Bill Devery Pinstripes appear on the NYH in Babe Ruth purchased by and Frank Farrell buy the Baltimore 1912 and then in 1913, the team NYY for $125,000 from Orioles, move them to Manhattan, is renamed the NY Yankees and the Boston Red Sox in becoming the NY Highlanders they move to the Polo Grounds 1920
  3. 3. Before the Babe Ruth trade in 1920, NY did not win a single championship, compared to Boston’s 3. Since the trade, NY won 27 championships, the most in baseball and Boston only won two (2004 and 2007) Boston New York September 1921: NYY clinches their first 4/18/1923: First game at their new home AL pennant, but lose the World Series to Yankee Stadium; Babe Ruth hits the 1st the New York Giants home run in the stadium. NYY would also take home their first World Series title

During his time period, Gehrig held the all-time record for consecutive games played (2,130) and most hits by a Yankee (2,721) 6/1/1925: Lou Gehrig starts 9/30/1927: Babe Ruth hits Lou Gehrig gives is farewell his streak of 2,130 games his 60th HR on the last day speech on 7/4/1939 and in a row of the season on 6/2/1941
  5. 5. The Streak In 1941, Joe Dimaggio got a hit in 56 straight games, a record has not come close to re-living. The streak went from May 15th to July 17th 4/17/1953: Mickey Mantle 10/8/1956: Don Larsen pitches the Roger Maris hits 61 home runs hits the “tape measure only perfect game in World in the 1961 season, shot” 565-foot home run vs. Series History, beating the Brooklyn breaking Babe Ruth’s record The Washington Senators Dodgers 2-0
