Publishers Lisa Ryan Howard Tommy Page Publisher Associate PublisherThe two publishers both are publishers and work for Billboard. Lisa RyanHoward has over 18 years of strategic media experience which would alsomean she would know a lot about how to create a magazine and to make iteffective. Tommy Page was previously a musician and worked with WarnerBros./Reprise Records. This shows he has experience in the musicbusiness and must have an interest in music. These two publishers wouldbe appropriate for my magazine as they already work for a company andmagazine that are based around Chart music, (which is the same genre asmy magazine), and both have experience in music. They both published alot of magazines for Billboard who is a well known and reputable magazineproducing company.
Top Of The Pops• Launched in February 1995.• Several editors in the past, such as: Peter Lorraine, Corinna Schaffer and Rosalie Snaith, and contributing editors including Adam Tanswell.• Its current editor is Peter Hart.• Published by BBC magazines• Recently has included less music and moved towards a younger female target audience.Magazine Covers Top of the pops uses a lot ofdifferent contrasting colours whichmakes the cover stand out abovedifferent ones, (this is what youexpect from different pop magazines). They’ve used one main image butthen lots of different images whichanchor each individual cover line.
BillBoard• Owned by Prometheus Global Media• Editors include Lisa Ryan Howard and Tommy Page.• Includes articles and information such Hit 100 and Billboard 200.• More focused around music and charts than Top of the Pops.Magazine Covers The masthead is partly covered fromthe main image. This is because themagazine is a well known brand and peoplewill still know who made the magazine evenwithout seeing the whole masthead. I won’tdo this with my magazine as it isn’t a wellknown and reputable magazine and peoplewill not be able to guess the name of themagazine.
NME• Biggest weekly selling magazine in the magazines• Includes reviews, interviews and concert guides• NME was the first magazine to include a chart inside. Since then it has moved on to an Indie or Rock audience. Therefore it doesn’t include as much information on Chart music or much pop.Magazine Covers This magazine is well known for using asingle striking image which originated fromPennie Smith’s photography. I will use this onmy magazine but still use some extra imagesto anchor the other cover lines like Top of thePops does.
