    • Poor digestive health can lead to a raw food diet worsening your health – this may at first seem confusing since one of the main reported benefits of raw food is improved digestion
    • Raw foods improve digestion because of their high enzyme content
    • However:
      • More enzymes are required to breakdown raw food
      • Raw food places greater demand on other areas of digestion in order for them to be broken down and absorbed
      • Cooked/processed food is much less demanding because it is essentially pre-digested

    • Other areas of the digestive system that play a big role in how we break down and absorb food include:
      • Stomach Acid
      • Gut Flora (Bacteria)
      • Bile
    • Deficiencies or imbalance in any of these areas will also limit the ability of your digestive system to break down and absorb food
    • Raw food will do very little if anything for improving digestion in these areas

    • When the digestive system is in such a poor state any extra demands placed on it can weaken overall health and digestion in the long run. In such situations individuals are better off stick to cooked food until digestive health has been improved

      • Regular alcohol consumption
