  • 2. what is Pacific Ring of Fire?The Pacific Ring of Fire is an area where large numbersof earthquakes andvolcanic eruptions occur in the basin of the PacificOcean. In a 40,000 km (25,000 mi) horseshoe shape, it is associatedwith a nearly continuous series of oceanic trenches, volcanic arcs,and volcanic belts and plate movements.
  • 3. ChileTectonic activity in Chile is related to subduction of theNazca Plate to the east.Chile notably holds the record forthe largest earthquake ever recorded, the 1960 Valdiviaearthquake . Villarrica , one of Chile s most activevolcanoes, rises above Villarrica Lake and the town ofVillarrica .
  • 4. RussiaThe Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East , is one ofthe most various and active volcanic areas in the world, with anarea of 472,300 km².
  • 5. JapanTen percent of the worlds active volcanoes are found in Japan,which lies in a zone of extreme crustal instability. so Japanhappen 1,500 earthquakes are recorded yearly, andmagnitudes of four to six on the Richter scale are notuncommon.

Some of the volcanoes are notablefor their eruptions, for instance,Krakatau for its global effects in 1883,Lake Toba for its supervolcaniceruption estimated to have occurred
