  • 3. What is S.O.F.E? S.O.F.E is a regional competition aimed at those who work or study in Mechanical Engineering. The idea is to create a short presentation to technically explain any Mechanical Engineering subject • The presentation must be shorter than 20 mins • Power point/Visual Aides/Video’s Are all Allowed • You will be presenting in front of your engineering peers and a panel of experienced JudgesImproving the world through engineering www.imeche.org 3

What is S.O.F.E? - GuidelinesSOFE hopefuls should be one of the following: • Affiliate Member • Associate member • Professionally Registered for less than 10 yearsCompetitors must also:•Prepare a 200 word (max) written synopsis about theirpresentation•Submit synopsis 1 week before competition (9th April 2013)Improving the world through engineering www.imeche.org 4
  • 5. When is it held?SOFE Aberdeen heat will be held on 16th April atRGUThe final will be held in Edinburgh in JuneImproving the world through engineering www.imeche.org 5

How will it be Judged?SOFE is judged out of 100 by a panel of Judges:•90% Presentation•10% TechnicalCompetitors must also:•Prepare a 200 word (max) written synopsis about theirpresentation•Submit synopsis 1 week before competition (9th April 2013)Improving the world through engineering www.imeche.org 6
  • 7. Why should I Enter? Pt 1I’m a student why should I enter?•Applying for jobs? This will make you stand apart from otherapplicants•Shows companies you’re able to present and can be technicallyminded•Practice your uni presentation on a non bias group of judges!I’m not a Student should I really bother?•YES!•This will improve your presentations skills•It will count towards your Professional Development•Shows your have that initiative your boss is always telling you totake!Improving the world through engineering www.imeche.org 7
