  4. 4. Counseling and Academic Advising Mission Statement NTID Counseling & Academic Advising Services advances the academic, personal and career growth and success of all NTID-supported students. Department services are designed to be student centered, pro-active, developmental, and responsive to student needs. Services are integrated within the students ’ academic and co-curricular experience and support the academic curriculum. Department services include group and individual counseling, career planning and assessment, academic advising and course instruction. Student success is promoted through collaboration and consultation with advisors, tutors, instructors, administrators and other support service providers, as well as students’ families and community professionals.

NTID Counseling & Academic Advising Services uses a developmental approach that empowers students to reach their educational and personal goals. </li></ul><ul><li>Our interactions with students will influence their: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Self-awareness </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Independence & self-advocacy </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Informed decision-making </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Academic progress </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Preparation for graduation, employment and life </li></ul></ul><ul><li>This philosophy and how we work with students is consistent with the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics. </li></ul>

Dealing with semesters and all computer system conversions (GeneSIS) </li></ul><ul><li>a. (N Flag, who has access, training, ability to do own reports, etc) </li></ul><ul><li>b. (Individual Academic Plans for all students) </li></ul><ul><li>3. Continued family/parental involvement w/our students </li></ul><ul><li>4. Vocational Rehab being more strict/limiting, more communication </li></ul><ul><li>5. More involvement with Career Decision Making course/students – streamlined the curriculum </li></ul>Counseling and Academic Advising

Improved CRTC and addition of Focus 2 assessment/interest tests </li></ul><ul><li>3. Freshman Seminar Pilot </li></ul><ul><li>4. Search and approval for a new counselor </li></ul><ul><li>5. New Film for use in FS, SVP, etc. “Joey Goes to College’ </li></ul><ul><li>6. Refined ‘red flag’/counseling summary forms for SVP (and process) </li></ul><ul><li>7. Clothing drive for students who need professional clothes for job interview/ co-op </li></ul><ul><li>8. Thanksgiving dinner for students here during break </li></ul><ul><li>9. Peer mentoring program for Career Exploration Students </li></ul><ul><li>10. English Chart Review Committee established </li></ul><ul><li>11.
