  • Social Media Brand Plan Marissa McNees
  • Goals
    • Career goal :
    • Ultimately, I want to be a sports writer for a major newspaper or magazine ( ESPN The Magazine , Sports Illustrated , etc.).
    • Social Media goa l:
    • With my online brand, I hope to create an online presence in the world of sports journalism and establish myself as a leader in sports writing.
  • My Social Media Presence
    • I have profiles on:
      • -Twitter
      • -Facebook
      • -Linkedin
      • -Blogspot
    My presence on Twitter and Facebook is the biggest asset to my online brand because I am able to promote articles I've written and link directly to my magazine's profile.
  • Portfolio & Social Media Resume
    • My portfolio will include:
      • -all my published works from iSPY Magazine/emYOU!The Magazine
    • Social Media Resume:
      • -My employer will be able to view my Visual CV resume at
      • -My Linkedin profile is more extensive though, and I would probably direct my employers there, instead.
  • Objectives
    • My main objective is to use my social media brand to gain a job as a sports writer.
    • Smaller objectives that will help me reach my main goal are:
      • -gaining more followers on Twitter
      • -gaining more connections/recommendations on Linkedin
      • -promoting and directing future employers to my social media resume
  • SWOT Analysis
    • Strengths
    • My biggest strength is my writing skills and being able to link directly to articles I've written. I have also held three executive board positions in my sorority and I am good at facilitation.
    • Weaknesses
    • I am a little bit behind in regards to social media; I'm not always pursuing different outlets and I am not always familiar with how to use them.
    • Opportunities
    • My biggest opportunity is to be able to connect with other writers and future employers. I also have connections with other writers in the area and live close to Detroit which has two major publications.
    • Threats
    • I'm slightly illiterate when it comes to the digital world, which is a huge setback, especially in journalism.
  • Key Messages
    • The main things I want my personal brand to represent about me are my passion, dedication and writing capabilities.
      • -Example: I'm incredibly passionate about EMU and all of my social media profiles reflect that, whether in background images or profile pictures.
    • Employers will see that:
      • -I love what I do and really care about it.
      • -I am committed and work hard at promoting not only myself, but my fellow writers as well.
      • -I have the experience that makes me stand out as a writer.
  • Strategies
    • In order to achieve my main objective, I will:
      • -Increase my knowledge of various social media
      • -Become more proficient with online journalism
        • Photography
        • Video editing
        • Creating websites
      • -Monitor my followers/profile visitors
      • -Join groups for writers/journalists on sites such as Linkedin
  • Tactics
    • How will I I get there? What will I do—short term and long term?
      • -I will branch out in to the community and cover more events.
      • -Consider every writing opportunity I get, even if it's not something I particularly want to write about
      • -Constantly track jobs in journalism, particularly sports writing or sports coverage.
  • Measurement
    • How will I measure my success?
      • -Job opportunities
      • -Recognition
      • -Creating a name for myself in sports journalism
    • My ultimate measurement of success will be if I am able to obtain a writing position at a MAJOR publication writing about something I love and am passionate about.
