  2. 2. • This riot took place in the 26th of October 1956 during thegovernment of Lim Yew Hock• Lim Yew Hock want to control the Communist-ledactivities, so he shut down the Singapore Chinese MiddleSchool Students’ Union• He also arrested 4 students from Chung Cheng HighSchool and Chinese High School.• In order to protest against the government’s action, thestudents camped in school for 2 weeks
  3. 3. • The government asked the parents to ask their children togo back home on 24 October 1956. However, it was notsuccessful.• On the same day, Lim Chin Siong, a pro-communistleader have a meeting with the workers near the ChineseHigh School The workers then joined the students aftertheir meeting• The police used tear gas to made the students run awayfrom the school
  4. 4. • When the students ran to the city, they staged a riot andthrew stones and bottle. They even overturn cars andspoil traffic lights.• The riot continued for 3 days then the governmentimposed a restriction• After the riot, Lim Yew Hock arrested the communist-influence people which includes Lim Chin Swee and FongSwee Suan, the union leaders
  5. 5. • The government also nticed that the riot is similar to HockLee Bus Riot because the communist used the studentsand the workers to stage a riot.• Lim Yew Hock made the British think confidently becausehe solve the riot sucessfully• The government also was amazed with Lim Yew Hock’shard posture because he arrested the correct people whowas involved in communist activity
