Let us look at the consequences of poverty: What can you see in this picture?

What do you think may be different to your life? Do these children live in houses like yours? Do they have a doctor like yours? What will they be when they grow up? Do their parents have as much money as yours?

Why is this important? Let’s look again at the picture - What do you see that’s the same as in your life?

What do you see that’s the same as in your life? Do you play football, or know someone who likes playing football? Do you go to school? Do you wear clothes? Do you want to go to the doctor if you’re ill? Aren’t we all human? Oxfam thinks that is enough reason to do something about poverty and inequality!

These are called the Millennium Development Goals In the year 2000, world leaders made some big promises.

The bad news is that… we are half-way to 2015 and our world is not half-way towards reaching all the targets The good news is that… if rich countries: give more aid, make trade fair and cancel poor countries’ debts, it might still be possible to achieve the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.
