  • 2. The Theory <ul><li>Matter is composed of particles that are in constant motion </li></ul>
  • 3. Why do we have this Theory? <ul><li>Helps us predict </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Heat transfer </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Pressure </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Temperature </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Properties of matter </li></ul></ul>
  • 4. Motion <ul><li>These particles have spaces in between them </li></ul><ul><ul><li>They move around in these spaces </li></ul></ul>
  • 5. Gases <ul><li>In gases, the spaces are far apart </li></ul>
  • 6. Liquids <ul><li>In liquids, the spaces are smaller </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Now there is a fixed volume </li></ul></ul>
  • 7. Solids <ul><li>Even in solids, the particles are moving </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Now there is a fixed shape, too </li></ul></ul>
  • 8. Effects of Energy <ul><li>If the temperature is raised, the particles move faster </li></ul><ul><ul><li>And visa versa </li></ul></ul>
  • 9. Basically <ul><li>The higher the temperature, the faster the particles move </li></ul><ul><li>Solids- </li></ul><ul><li>Liquids- </li></ul>
  • 10. How these Theories Connect <ul><li>The more thermal energy, the faster the particles move </li></ul>
