  14. 14. DID STUDENTS... .... FIND THE INTERFACE EASY AND FRIENDLY? FEEDBACK Yes, they did. SOME TECHNICAL PROBLEMS, THOUGH ....UNDERSTAND THE FINAL TASK AND THE PROCESS TOWARDS IT? Partially. Some instructions were a bit confusing for them. ....FEEL MOTIVATED TO TAKE PART IN THE EXPERIENCE? First , they were suspicious and then they were happy to “assess” the programme and the teacher! A bit overwhelmed .... WORK COMPLETELY AUTONOMOUSLY WITH AutoTutor AND HotPotatoes ? They could have if the Autotutor feedback had not given any problem. ....FIND ALL THE ACTIVITIES HELPFUL FOR THEIR LEARNING PROCESS ? Most of them. They need to be pushed to use resources to help their writing. ....IMPROVE THEIR WRITING SKILLS? Definetely! ....REFLECT ON LANGUAGE AND Yes, they did and felt frustrated when the feedback was wrong THEIR OWN MISTAKES? or grades not recorded
  15. 15. WILL THE ACTIVITIES.... FEEDBACK ....BE PROPER DEPENDING ON THE PROGRAMMES’ CONSTRAINTS? Most of them. ....RESPOND TO A WELL PLANNED AND BALANCED UNIT? Yes but some more activities could be improved. ....PREVENT STUDENTS’ FROM TEAMWORK ? On the contrary. .....CREATE APPROPRIATE FEEDBACK TO REINFORCE LANGUAGE USE? They could have if the Autotutor feedback had not given any problem. Hot potatoes is very limited. ....BE MORE MOTIVATING DEPENDING ON THE PROGRAMME? At first they preferred Hotpotatoes but in the second session they were hooked! ....IMPROVE THE STUDENTS’WRITING PROCESS? Definitely! ....HELP THE TEACHER FULFILL HIS/HER PEDAGOGICAL GOAL? Yes, they did but students do not see that clearly.
  16. 16. HOTPOTATOES AUTOTUTOR 1. Students are familiar with the programme. 2. Easy to design and use. 3. Reliable. 1. Really challenging. 2. Students cannot cheat. 3. Reflection on language is guaranteed. 1. Do not require reflection on language. 2. Students can cheat easily. 3. Students are not helped to know why their answer is wrong. 4. Very limited options. 1. Very strict (punctuation marks, contractions..) 2. Difficult to foreseen all the possible answers 3. Teacher needs specific training to create proper activities. 4. Not good for too long reading activities.
  17. 17. 1. I like the combination of different programmes. 2. Autotutor: a) short activities: video, listening, short readings, word order, questions. b) Teacher needs more training to design activities; especially on content checking. c) it is sometimes the programme’s failure. So you never know! d) The grades should include all the activities. 3. Hotpotatoes do not add anything new to the experience. 4. Students and I are satisfied although a bit frustrated.
