  • Welcome and Introduction contact@gowrainfosys.com  Introduction  How to install and configure Oracle RAC 11gR2.0.4 on Solaris 11.1 on Oracle Private Cloud with , Fixed VIP, Fixed SCAN, Fixed Public, Fixed Interconnect Network  GNS is not used in this configuration.  Oracle RAC 11g release 2 (11.2) introduces the Single Client Access Name (SCAN). The SCAN is a single name that resolves to three IP addresses in the public network.  When using Grid Naming Services(GNS) and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol(DHCP), Oracle Clusterware configures the Virtual addresses for the SCAN name that is provided during cluster configuration.
  • Overview contact@gowrainfosys.com  The node VIP and the three SCAN VIPs are NOT obtained from the DHCP server  If a new server joins the cluster, then Oracle Clusterware does NOT dynamically obtains the required VIP address from the DHCP server, Need to configure Manually.  We define these address in the DNS domain before installation. Optionally in /etc/hosts  Fixed Private interconnects are configure in /etc/hosts, two routes are used for interconnect, this was introduced from 11gR2 on wards.  SCAN needed to be configured in DNS to resolve to 3 (three) IP address in DNS.  In this presentation we will install and configure the Real Application Cluster(RAC) without Grid Naming Service(GNS), Oracle 11.1 on Solaris11.

  • contact@gowrainfosys.com  Space requirement on the RAC Nodes This section is for the minimum space requirement for the each RAC nodes.  1 GB of space in the /tmp directory  4.5 GB of space for the grid infrastructure for a Grid home. This includes Oracle Clusterware and Automatic Storage Management (ASM) files and log files.  5 GB for the Oracle home.  Swap space equivalent to the multiple of the available RAM, as indicated in the following table: Available RAM Swap Space Required Between 1 GB and 2 GB 1.5 times the size of RAM Between 2 GB and 16 GB Equal to the size of RAM More than 16 GB 16 GB
