The black colors symbolizes the Sudan and the Mahdia revolution during which a black flag was used. The green color represents and symbolizes Islamic prosperity and agriculture.

National elections are to occur no later than July 2009. </li></ul><ul><li>Darfur Issue is problematic enough </li></ul><ul><li>Currently-Unity Government </li></ul><ul><li>In 1982 (Nimeiri), SPLA was created and it kicked up again in recently </li></ul><ul><li>Currently there are several political parties in both the nation's north and south. All political parties were banned following the June 30, 1989 military coup. Political associations, which take the place of parties, were authorized in 2000. </li></ul><ul><li>Central government budget $14.6 billion. </li></ul><ul><li>Defense 40% of GNP. </li></ul>

Darfur <ul><li>Started in 2003 </li></ul><ul><li>-Some argue it stems from 1980’s during Mahdist regime. </li></ul><ul><li>Not individual to Sudan </li></ul><ul><li>“ Fur” people live mostly on the border of Sudan but also in Chad & Central African Republic </li></ul><ul><li>Sudanese government </li></ul><ul><li>Darfur has rich resources </li></ul>
