  • 2. Hephaestus is the God of:
    • Volcanoes
    • Crafts
    • (known as the patron of all craftsmen)
  • 3. Symbols
    • Fire
    • Blacksmith’s hammer
  • 4. Back round information
    • Hephaestus is the son of Zeus and Hera.
    • Hephaestus was one of the 12 Olympians.
    • Hephaestus built this workplace and home beneath a volcano.
    • He repulsed many of the gods because he was born both lame and ugly.
  • 5. Back round information continued
    • Many of the Gods rejected him on Mount Olympus.
    • His mother, Hera was displeased by the sight of her son and she threw Hephaestus from Mount Olympus.
    • After falling for a whole day he landed in the sea where the nymphs rescued him and took him to Lemnos.
    • Hephaestus was married to Aphrodite but he caught her fooling around with Ares

    • Hephaestus’ Roman Name is Vulcan.
  • 7. Hephaestus’ Temple
    • The Temple of Hephaestus is in central Athens, Greece.
    • Known as the Hephaesteum and the Theseum.
  • 8. Hephaestus was in:
    • The myth Pandora’s box .He created the first woman named Pandora. Pandora was given to Prometheus’ brother Epinetheus as his wife. For her dowry she brought a jar filled with evils and she removed the lid. They afflicted men with hard work and sickness. Only one remained in the jar, that one was Hope.

    • Hephaestus was one of the twelve Olympians who had a “regular” job and actually worked with his hands.
    • Hephaestus is seen in Fantasia, making lightning bolts for Zeus.
    • Was in the movie The Clash of the titans. He is seen making an owl named Bubo as a copy of Aphrodite’s owl , out of metal to give to Persius.
