  1. 1. Powering Local Operations Support for the Largest Global Sporting Event With over ten stadia, multiple media centers, critical accreditation centers, numerous hotels, airports, an International Broadcast Center and the critical IT Command Center (ITCC), the local IT operations support for FIFA is a necessity rather than a value-add. Challenges • The event-based support and its IT architecture was quite different from the conventional one in the IT industry • Shorter timelines in terms of getting the resources on- boarded Solution • Developed a centralized deployment plan, for error-free execution • Centralized asset management and monitoring resulting in end-to-end coverage Benefits • 33 servers, 947 laptops, 712 printers, 217 cameras, and 700+ mobile phones were deployed flawlessly • Heightened customer delight due to the smooth deployment process • 100% accountability of assets
  2. 2. Non-conventional implementation in a non-traditional environment When it comes to any sporting event, each implementation is unique. Since this implementation was event-based, its IT architecture was different from the conventional, and required a lot of effort to design the framework. End-to-end framework development and operations implementation was the need of the hour. There was a daunting challenge of rigid timelines and staff-related logistics. Flawless delivery of services attained due to excellent planning Close to a thousand laptops were imaged for the event using ‘Windows Deployment Services’ and 100+ Accreditation (ACR) printers were configured and deployed at the ACR centers. This was possible only through meticulous planning and flawless execution. 80% of the deployment was executed without zero issues or challenges and resulted in increased customer delight.
  3. 3. A centralized structure was the key factor for implementation To ensure smooth functioning of operations, a Local Operations Team (LOT) LOT LOT LOT LOT Port Elizabeth Polokwane Pretoria Rustenburg was formed. Its operations were controlled by the IT Command Center (ITCC), which was centrally located and functioned as the LOT ITCC LOT hub of all activities. Durban - Hotline Team IBC - Security Team A Master Deployment Plan was prepared - Windows Team - Deployment Team and, the entire event hardware was LOT LOT - Asset Management Team configured, shipped and deployed at Cape Town FIFA HQ various locations according to this plan. The team at the venue was responsible for all LOT LOT LOT LOT hardware installations/de-installations. Nelspruit Johannesburg SC Johannesburg EP Bloemfontein The centralized Asset Management Team (AMT) and Deployment team tracked the movement of the assets and the deployment respectively. The Hotline teams operating from IT Command Centre (ITCC) were responsible for logging calls received from venues and assigning them to appropriate resolution groups.
