  • 2. Its the biggest open air arts and music festival in the world
    covering 900 acres of Somerset farmland
  • 3. The first Glastonbury Festival was held on the day afterJimiHendrix died in September 1970.
  • 4. The attendance was 1,500 and it cost £1 to get in, including free milk from the farm
  • 5. 1978 became known as the “impromptu” Festival
    The stage was powered by an electric meter in a caravan with the cable running to the stage

  • 7. 1982 had the highest rainfall for a single day in 45 years
  • 8.
    • Lily Allen attended her first ever Glastonbury Festival when she was just five weeks old
    • 9. In 1994 the main stage burned down just weeks before the festival
    • 10. In 2005, an impressive £1,350,000 was raised and paid to charities and good causes, including Greenpeace, Oxfam and WaterAid
    • 11. Also in 2005 on the way to Glastonbury Festival The Killers left their guitarist at a motor service station and he almost missed their set on the Pyramid Stage
  • The Pyramid stage doubles as a cowshed and animal feed store in winter.
  • 12. In 2004 more football fans gathered to watch England lose to Portugal in the European Championships than anywhere else in the world
  • 13. 2005 Glastonbury had two months worth of rain in several hours! A once in a hundred year occurrence!
  • 14. Last year at Glastonbury 3 million gallons of water were drunk, 2,500 toilets were used, and 800,000 million gallons of human waste were collected
