  • 99% of public companies in the US use a commercial wire service like PRN or BW to issue their earnings announcements. By our estimates, public companies issued close to 20,000 earnings releases in 2005, in addition to other market moving news like new product announcements, new contracts, personnel announcements, dividends and stock splits, etc. Each company goes through a screening process to ensure they are a legitimate company and is then given access to a proprietary web site where they upload their release and any supporting documents. In the case of earnings, many companies give us their text release plus the income statement, balance sheet and sometimes cash flow statement, in excel. Through the system, they tell us when they want it to go and where they want it distributed. This upload process will not change with xbrl.
  • Because the information we are working with is very sensitive, we maintain a list of authorized senders – individuals with the company who are allowed to send in releases. Our Editorial staff receives the release and immediately calls the authorized sender to confirm that it was sent by the appropriate person. This process will also not change with xbrl.
  • All releases are coded by our editors for industry and subject and they include ticker symbol, appropriate contact information, web address, source of the document, following by the ANPA system. Today’s release is written solely in ascii text because that’s what the recipients of our content want to receive.
  • Each release bundle will be made available for immediate release or queued for timed distribution. Recipients of our content will have the option to receive . . .
