Be All You Can Be
Step 4 SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, Personal Experiences and Observations
Have you ever noticed that the quality of your life is in direct relationship to the quality of the
questions you are asking yourself?
Years ago, when I was a teenager feeling at the effect of my parent’s divorce I was severely
challenged to be the cause of my own experience. At a time when life was asking me, “Who
do you want to be when you grow up?” I couldn’t decide if life was even worth getting out of
bed for.
You may have heard that there is a series of questions that a good news reporter will ask to
get to the bottom of a story: Who, What, When, Where, Why and How? Well the story of my
life back then, forced me to dig deep and answer the nagging question that became my reason
for getting out of bed and facing another day of chaos, “Who am I?”
Parents, friends, school nor religion came to my aid, I was pretty much alone in seeking the
information I most needed. It took many years to understand that there really are two basic
kinds of knowledge: one is general and the other specialized. Today I see these two as woven
together in the process of Masterminding and Implementing, where Masterminding is a way
of accessing the vast quantity and quality of knowledge and Implementing becomes the
specialization of organizing and intelligently directing vast knowledge toward a specific chosen
outcome. Yet again PURPOSE is everything, because without Purpose all the knowledge in the
world is overwhelmingly useless, especially to a teenager questioning if life is even worth
living.

Have circumstances in your own life brought you to the place of questioning if life is worth
living?
Know anyone challenged to walk what western tradition calls, The Dark Night of the Soul?
What general and specialized knowledge became a reason to continue life’s personal
experiences and observations?
For many that I have met religion came to the rescue, helping to answer the deepest of life’s
questions. For me it simply didn’t happen that way. Sure, I prayed to Jesus for help and did
find some sense of relief but the knowledge I found most useful came in the form of books like
Jonathan Livingston Seagull, by Richard Bach. Also, A Course in Miracles became a way of
looking at the world and my place in it that made the most sense to me. When religion
became more central in my life years later establishing my own definition of sin has blessed
me with the greatest peace of all. For me I SIN if I allow myself to become who I am…because
of the experience of others.
But I digress, I share all this only to highlight how powerful the questions that we ask ourselves
become in being both the cause and the effect of what we experience. Furthermore how
critical it is that especially when we think we know the answer already that we continue to ask
good questions, because not all knowledge accumulated through experience is accurate.
What do I mean?

Success and Failure are largely the result of HABIT, and the way of Success is the way of
CONTINUOUS PURSUIT OF KNOWLEDGE. Ultimately we get the answers to the questions we
are asking. If we don’t like the answers our life is giving us, then it may be time to become
more conscious of the quality of our questions. Remember, you have ABSOLUTE CONTROL
over but one thing, that being your thoughts. Putting it all together, the answers we are
getting are a result of the questions we are asking. What we are asking is a direct expression
of our thoughts.
Napoleon Hill in Think and Grow Rich offers how to organize and use knowledge after it is
acquired into definite plans of action (Implementation). He suggests that to be truly educated
is to have so developed the faculties of the mind that one may acquire anything one wishes, or
its equivalent, without violating the rights of others (in my words I would say by being a
power-to-others rather than a power-over-them).
Accumulation of great fortune calls for POWER. Which can be acquired through highly
organized and intelligently directed specialized knowledge. This is where a Mastermind group
can help to bridge any weaknesses.
Mr. Hill also says that before you can be sure of your ability to transmute DESIRE into its
monetary equivalent, you will require SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE of the service, merchandise,
or profession which you intend to offer in return for fortune.

The “missing link” in all systems of education known to civilization today may be found in the failure of
educational institutions to teach their students HOW TO ORGANIZE AND USE KNOWLEDGE AFTER THEY
ACQUIRE IT. It could be said that IMPLEMENTATION OF KNOWLEDGE is the biggest problem in the
world today. I mean really, does it still wash that we don’t know enough to create the life of our
dreams, or is it more accurate and honest to simply admit that we really don’t want to put the effort
into being the cause of all that we experience. It’s simply far more convenient to blame others for our
problems…isn’t it?
If you do contemplate pursuing additional formal education, first determine the PURPOSE for which
you want the knowledge you are seeking, and then learn where this particular knowledge can be
obtained from reliable sources.
Successful people in all callings never stop acquiring specialized knowledge related to their
major purpose, business, or profession.
Keep in mind as well that anything acquired without effort and without cost is generally
unappreciated, and often discredited.
Anybody can WISH for riches, and most people do, but only a few know that a definite plan,
plus a BURNING DESIRE (Step 1 DESIRE can be found HERE ), are the only dependable means of
accumulating wealth.
IMAGINATION (Step 5 will introduce you to this Workshop of the Mind), it is the catalyst that unites a
good idea with the specialized knowledge required to translate it into SUCCESS.
Albert Einstein said, IMAGINATION is more important than Knowledge.
