Piling of a flyover (AUST 2.2 A)

  1. 1. WELCOME
  2. 2. Presentation on FLYOVER PILING Prepared by: Course Teacher: Md. Arman Chowdhury Wahid Hasan (GROUP-5);;;;;;;;;
  3. 3. What is Pile? • It is a long slender foundation member made either of timber, structural steel or concrete to transfer the load of the structure in deep foundation. Fig- Pile
  4. 4. Why do we use Pile? Weak Soil Deep Foundation Structure PILE Bed Rock
  5. 5. Advantage of Piling • To take the structure deep into the ground and hence preventing over turning. • To provide a strong bedrock soil (i.e. higher bearing capacity) for the structure and transfer the total load of the structure. • To distribute the weight of the structure over a large area. • To prevent unequal settlement.
  6. 6. Types of pile Depending on their function: • Bearing piles • Friction piles • Sheet piles • Anchor piles • Batter piles • Fender piles • Compaction piles Depending on their materials: • Timber piles • Concrete piles • Composite piles • Steel piles
  7. 7. Casting of a Flyover Pile (cast in situ) (Location- Mouchak Mogbazar Flyover)
  8. 8. •At first, the locations of piles are fixed by theodolite surveying.
  9. 9. 1. Excavation Started 2. If utility pipes are found during excavation, then the location point of pile is changed 3. No utility within 2 meter
  10. 10. Hydraulic Rig machine Cutting Bucket
  11. 11. •After excavating 6m temporary steel case is placed and then bentonite is used.
  12. 12. • Excavation continues according to design using rotary rig machine
  13. 13. •Using hose pipe to remove Bentonite mixed water after excavation process is completed
  14. 14. Making of Steel Case •Process of making the vertical reinforcements in circular arrangement
  15. 15. •Circular rings are used to make stirrups and to maintain perfect circular arrangement Stirrups
  16. 16. Completion of steel case
  17. 17. Thread Coupler •It is used to join the inner rebars
  18. 18. After applying pressure Punching machine Plane coupler (N.B: These two couplers are used for the very first time in our country)
  19. 19. Circular CC block weiring welding
  20. 20. •Placing of steel case
  21. 21. Placing of trimmy pipe Started casting
  22. 22. •After completion of casting
  23. 23. Top head of the pile is removed Removed pile heads
  24. 24. Load test of pile : •Load test is done by using hydraulic jack Load test continued (each block weighs 1 ton)
  25. 25. One layer BFS to level the surface of the pile cap
  26. 26. Casting on the BFS After Casting on the BFS
  27. 27. Placing of reinforcement after initial casting of pile cap
  28. 28. Chair
  29. 29. Completion of placing reinforcement of pile cap
  30. 30. Completion of casting of pile cap
  31. 31. Observations: • The water that they used to admix the bentonite was recycled for next use also. •They maintained the weiring and welding properly to make steel case strong enough to carry the load. •When they broke the pile head, it should be above 6” from the ground surface. But in some cases accidently, they couldn’t manage to do so. Therefore, they placed an extra layer of CC of 6” which shouldn’t be as it couldn’t take the load properly.
  32. 32. THANK YOU… 
