We aim to contribute to these goals in ways that strengthen the economic capability, social capital and reputation of the areas in which we work.

  • 13. Community Owned: Green Energy Encourage people from all walks of life in Chesterfield to be part of the renewable revolution and join in the fight against climate change by catalysing the ownership of local renewables development.
  • 14. Chesterfield: Sustainable Energy Award Establish an annual award for sustainable energy (or climate change) achievement in Chesterfield (or Derbyshire or EM Region). To raise the profile of ambitious action and encourage & engage businesses, organisations, individuals & communities.
  • 15. Transport (Distribution / Logistics / Warehousing…….) Promote sustainable travel & transport throughout the Borough. Encourage greener driving, greener vehicles, greener modes of travel, green logistics.

  • 22. NHS Service Providers Focus on GP Surgeries, Dentists & Pharmacists within the Borough. Ensure all service providers have embraced sustainable energy & promote wider messages to ‘customers’. 1 million people every 36 hours
  • 23. Small & Medium Enterprises RE:think Energy – Renewable Energy ‘honest Jo’ advice & capital grant – SME wide + Specific Sector (visitor economy / retail?) Diversification support into the low carbon economy. Maximise uptake of existing provision (Business Link, Carbon Trust..)
  • 24. Focus on Community Building Eradicate the inefficient community building from the Borough. Use Community Buildings to promote sustainable energy technologies. Sustainable Energy Trail around the Borough.

  • 27. Low Carbon Business Park/ Industrial Estate Focus on a place based approach to Low Carbon / Sustainable Energy Sectors – tourism? Technologies – solar park? Place – sustainable energy business park?
  • 28. Affordable Warmth Eradicate ‘Fuel Poverty’ – maximise ‘insulation jobs’ Maximise share of support e.g. Warmfront, CERT, Community Energy Saving Programme etc Place Based approach – Affordable Warmth Community
  • 29. Microgeneration Focus on small scale renewable technologies across the Borough. Linking technologies with communities, or sectors. Picking a winner: Solar thermal or biomass heating?
  • 30. The Great British (Chesterfield?) Refurb A week last Friday Ed Milliband announced that by 2050 all British homes will be near carbon zero. Is now the right time for Chesterfield Borough to step forward & seek to be the first locality in the UK to deliver this in existing homes?
  • 31. Fair (unfair share?) for Chesterfield To ensure that Chesterfield Borough gets its fair (or unfair share) of National & Regional programmes & initiatives…… Carbon Trust Business Link…..
  • 32. The Carbon Standard etc. Promote the Carbon Trust’s Carbon Standard to organisations in Chesterfield. Focus on Chesterfield being a leading area for uptake & engagement…..
