  • The Colmesneil ISD technology plan includes a needs assessment which contains a statement aobut where we are and where we are going in the area of technology integration. The goals of the plan include tecnology integration in all phases and levels of campus & district planning, providing staff development for the integration of technology, the inclusion of technology by the teachers in their classrooms, provide information to parents and the community, collaborate with colleges and adult literacy agencies, provide funding for training, maintenance and purchases for the purpose of technology integration, and finally the ongoing evaluation of the plan.
  • Each year the school district determines needs for the next school year. Several types of assessment are used. First we create a survey asking for information from the teachers and administrators. Another form of assessment used comes from the teachers response to the Star Chart questions. The Technology Task-Force, which is comprised of teachers and administrators, writes the needs assessment portion of our plan after reviewing the two sets of data.
  • The success of any endeavor starts with a good plan so Our first goal is to ensure that technology integration begins at the basic level of planning. The teachers will document the use of technology in their daily lesson plans. The administrators responsibility will be to plan staff development that incorporates technology integration. Each Campus Site based committees will be responsible for including technology integration in the campus improvement plan and the district committee will include the need for technology integration in the district improvement plan.
  • Goal 2 addresses staff development. The district will take action by providing staff development for the teachers and administrators. At the beginning of each school year the administrtaion will plan in-service days that include means of integrating technology in the classroom. There will be updates and reviews on the Student Information Software. We spend one afternoon reviewing how to use TAPS, which is the program we use for disaggregating test data, and then we have refresher courses on using the Interactive white board, wireless interactive tablets, document cameras, and the student response system, also known as the clickers.
  • As the year progresses, the district provides time for the teachers to attend workshops for learning about new products and new ways of integrating into their lessons. The teachers can choose to attend through the use of the videoconferencing room, or by attending workshops at another location. The school also provides afternoon mini workshops that includes refresher courses on the use of the document cameras, ways to use digital cameras for multimedia presentations, using multimedia software, how to create lessons for the student response systems and how to find or create lessons to use with the interactive boards and tablets. The technology department is responsible for providing the material for the mini workshops.
  • The third goal of this plan is the actual integration of technology in the classroom. The teachers after making their plans will use technology in the presenting of material to the students. By using the different forms of technology on a daily basis they are modeling that use for the students. Also included is student use of technology. The teachers will require the students to use technology in the completion of some of their assignments. The Internet will be used for research, collaboration with each other, with students from other schools, and with experts that are available online. They will use word processing, photo-editing, video and multimedia software to demonstrate the integration of technology into their learning.
  • Goal 4 is the communication portion of the plan. The school district will communicate with students, parents, and the community thorugh the district website. The administrators post newsletters, the teachers create pages for their classrooms and provide links to student projects. The website is maintained by school personnel. Another means of communication is through the parent portal section of the Student Information System. The parents are able to see their child’s attendance, discipline and grade reports. The school can also post announcements on the parent portal.
  • The fifth goal is to provide access for adult learners. We have an agreement with the nearest community college wherby we provide classrooms, the library, a computer lab, and the video-confernecing room and they provide the teacher for college classes. Whenever the need arises and if it is feasible, the school will provide afternoon or evening access to the Libreary, a computer lab, and the videoconferencing room for adult literacy classes. We are located in a rural area and providing this service will be a convenience for the local taxpayers.
  • The sixth goal states that the school district will provide funding for staff development for teachers and administrators, communications with the community, purchase and maintenance of hardware, software and infrastructure for the district network. The district will use Title 2 Part D funds and will join cooperatives coordinated by the Region Service center for staff development. The district will seek outside funding from businesses, corporations or grants. The district will use local funds to pay for maintenance, acquisitions and staff development not covered by the other sources.
  • The last goal is evaluation. We need to determine if the plan is working. Does it provide for all of the school district’s needs? AS was mentioned in the needs assessment, we are going to create a final survey for the teachers and administrators. The principals, through teacher evaluations will determine the level of technology integration, the teachers and administrators will complete the Star Chart, and then all of the information will be compiled by the Technology task-force. Changes for the next years technology plan will come from this final evaluation.
