  • 2. Who are Young People? Persons between the ages 15 -24 years old Young people are not a homogenous group People under 25 make up 43 percent of the world’s population
  • 3. What is Youth Issue? Youth Issues Reproducti ve Health Environme nt Etc Leadership Economy Education Sexuality Migration  Global youth unemployment is estimated to stand at 73.4 million in 2013 (ILO 2013)  Between 2011 and 2020, more than 140 million girls will become child brides (UNFPA 2013)  Many adolescents living with HIV were born with the virus (UNICEF & UNAIDS 2011)  Globally, there are approximately 35 million adolescent and youth international migrants (UNICEF 2011)  11% of the world’s youth (15- 24 years old) are non-literate (UNESCO 2011)

Young People Potentials • Youth have the best understanding of the realities of their own lives. • Designing a youth policy involving young people themselves stands a much greater chance of success. • Youth participation encourages youth to become active members of a democratic society. • By involving and empowering youth through the decision making process, young people develop important skills and improve self-confidence. • Active and equal participation in decisions affecting their lives provides hope and dignity, fostering a better understanding of community issues and a sense.
