Conserving Energy

 1. 1. Energy and Conserving Energy By: Omar Samadi
 2. 2. Why We Have To Save Energy

We have to save energy because of we don’t:

Our parent’s money will be wasted paying for the electricity bills

It ruins the planet by sending CO2 and gas emissions into the sky and it ruins the earth

 3. 3. What is energy?

often defined ability to do work

Some different forms of energy, including kinetic, gravitational, elastic, electromagnetic, chemical, nuclear, and mass

Is converted from one form to another

 4. 4. What Are Fossil Fuels

There are three types of fossil fuels: coal, oil, and natural gas.

Coal-Black, rock like substance, made of carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, and oxygen.

Oil-Scientists say that oil is made of plankton like creatures that were decomposed. We need oil for transportation like cars and planes.

Natural Gas-The first discoveries of natural gas were in Iran. Natural gas is lighter than air. Is mostly made of methane.

Fossil Fuels are NOT renewable so lets not waste them!

 5. 5. Renewable and Nonrenewable Energy

Renewable-Geothermal, water, wind, solar biomass.

Nonrenewable-Oil, coal, nuclear, natural gas.

 6. 6. Ways to Conserve Energy

1) Instead of taking a long bath, take a quick shower. It helps save water.

2)Change your ordinary light bulbs to CFL light bulbs. It uses less energy, is brighter, and lasts longer.

3) When you brush your teeth, don't leave the tap running.

4)Limit your TV. time to a couple of hours or so. Instead of wasting energy and hurting your eyes, read a book or go outside and play.

5)When you leave a room turn off the light and save energy.

6)Don't open the fridge for a very long time.

7)Instead of using a treadmill when running, go outside and enjoy the fresh air when you run.

8)Instead of getting a ride to school, walk or ride a bike.

9)If you can ask your parents into consider buying a hybrid car.

10)When you leave room make sure your computer is off (including the monitor) and other appliances are off like the radio.

Continued

 7. 7. Ways to Conserve Energy

Don’t leave your appliances on standby

Use less hot water

Use a clothesline instead of a dryer when possible

Reuse your shopping bag

Plant a tree

Go on a plane less
