  • Before I talk about what SAISD is doing to adapt to the changing environment, I’d like to share with you our District’s Mission and Vision Statements. Both statements purpose is to prepare students for the success in higher education.
  • Our core values state that we will prepare and deliver lessons that are student centered, we will always have high expectations of our students, be committed to our mission, have passion, integrity and respect, and work as a team.
  • Our core beliefs are ( read from list)
  • Technology has changed our students and how they prefer to learn. As such our mission with regard to technology is to (read from list)

  • In order to get there, SAISD began a restructuring plan. It is currently in the 4 th phase of this plan. The purpose of this plan is to consolidate resources in order to save monies that can be reinvested into our schools. Currently, many schools are not operating at full capacity. Consolidating resources results in school closures and money saved. Since the inception of this plan $14.5 million have been reinvested in our schools.
  • $3 million dollars of the money has been applied to improved technology in our schools. More than 3,000 computers have been purchased and many new technology programs have been added to the curriculum. Programs such as graphic design, animation, and environmental design are some of the programs recently added.
  • Phase III of the restructuring plan is still in progress and phase IV begins next school year. This means more consolidation and school closures, resulting in monies saved and used to make SAISD schools equitable to neighboring districts. Take a look at this video that further explains the goals of the restructuring plan.

  • The student expectations upon completing the 2 nd grade include knowing technology terms and the ability to use a variety of resources to complete projects
  • The list of student expectations continues and further includes using technology for collaborative work, publish and communicate ideas and understanding Acceptable Use.
  • By the end of 5 th grade, students are expected to complete many other technology related TA/TEKS. Just to name a few, students should be able to use input and output devices, use technology responsibly, and use productivity tools.
  • Read on for additional TA/TEKS students should master by the end of 5 th grade.
  • Expectations for students by the close of 8 th grade include identifying and solving routine hardware and software problems.

  • Expectations for students by the close of 8 th grade include identifying and solving routine hardware and software problems.
  • As you read on, you can see that the level of complexity increases dramatically from kindergarten through 12 th grade.
  • Take a moment to read through the last 3 TA/TEKS
  • In order to ensure that our students meet these expectations, the district will (read list)
  • Take a brief moment to look at this image. (Pause for a moment) This image is truly a reality check of how learning is changing. It’s odd nowadays to see a child choose a book when technology is so readily available to them. This is why we need to do everything possible to adapt as quickly as we can to these changes.
