    31. Banana Peels
    32. Banana Peels • The average banana peel weighs 150 grams, which may not seem like a lot. But if all of the sixth graders threw away a banana peel, it would weigh 53 pounds! That is a little more than the weight of an average seven year old. • If all of the students at Lovett ate a banana and threw away the peel, it would weigh 561 pounds. That is a lot of banana peels, considering there are 1,700 students! Those banana peels would weigh the same as seven 11 year olds. • Even though apple cores weigh more than banana peels, we’re not saying don’t eat apples. If you can compost, you will save thousands of pounds of origanic waste from going into landfills!
    33. Apple Cores
    34. Apple Cores • 170 grams is about the wight of an apple core. • When you throw an apple core in the trash, it takes energy, time, and money to get it to a landfill. But if you compost your apple cores, it is easy and helps the earth. • There are about 160 students in the 6th grade. If everyone in the 6th grade ate an apple core one day and threw away the core it would weigh 27,200 grams. That is almost 60 pounds, or the average weight of a 9 year old! If everyone at Lovett ate an apple one day and threw the core away, it would weigh 289,000 grams. All of those apple cores would weigh almost 636 pounds. That is the weight of almost eight 11 year olds! • If all of the people in Atlanta ate an apple one day and threw away the core, those cores would weigh 2,057,000 pounds. That is the same as almost 25,713 11 year olds! If all of the people in Georgia ate an apple one day and threw away the core, it would weigh 3,622, 564 pounds. If everyone in the U.S.A. ate an apple one day and threw away the core, it would weigh 113,718,337 pounds. If everyone in the world ate an apple one day and threw away the core, it would weigh 2,505,800,000 pounds. That is a lot of apple cores...
