  • Hello, It’s Tony Fortunato And Peter Ciuffreda from the Technology Firm In this session we will be showing you how to set up a FTP server using the free software, FTPServerLite Enjoy
  • What is FTP Server Lite? FTP Server Lite is a basic, portable FTP server application. Can I easily create and setup a FTP server, and store it on a portable drive to use where ever I need it? Yes.
  • Why would we use FTP Server Lite? FTP Server Lite is very easy to get configured and running when you want to share files with others. Why would we use it instead of a HTTP server. Compared to a HTTP server, a FTP server can copy multiple files easier and has more control on permissions. Can the FTP server be accessed through either a web browser or the command line? Yes. Good Point. Does FtpServerLite support encrypted FTP? No, you would have to use another program for that
  • Before you start running your FTP Server Lite you need to add users and configure a few settings. Start off by setting up user accounts. It is a good idea to set passwords for your users for extra security. Next, Browse to your directory or location. You might also want to set permissions for your users. Most administrators only allow users to download. Remember to choose your directory carefully, since users will have access to any sub folders from that directory.
  • In most cases, you will want to edit the Welcome and Goodbye message. If you want to leave the server running for a while without monitoring it, you can choose to turn logging on and view the text log at a later time.
  • Now that your setup is complete you can click the START button to turn on your server. Users will now be able to access the server until it is stopped. To access the FTP server, either open up your web browser or command line. In both methods you will be prompted to log into the server. If you don’t have a username you will not be allowed access to the server. If you are unfamiliar with navigating through folders in the command line stick to the web browser. With the web browser, you can create and save a URL syntax so that you don’t need to type in your username and password every time you want to log onto the FTP server.
  • Thanks for watching our presentation on FTP Server Lite. I hope you enjoyed it. Have a good day folks, bye for now.

      • A portable FTP server.
  • Why use FTP Server Lite?
    • FTP Server Lite can be used for the following tasks;
    • Copy multiple files easier then a HTTP server.
    • More control on permissioning then a HTTP server.
    • Easiest to calculate throughput of file transfer protocols.
    • File transfers may be from either a web browser or from the command line.
  • Getting Started – Setting Up User Accounts
    • Set up one or multiple user accounts depending on how many users you require.
    • Only these users can access the FTP server.
    • For security you can set passwords for your users.
    • You can disable users by clicking on that users name, then check the “Disable this account” box.
