2. Hi, I am Adrian’s Flat Stanley.
I am dressing like a character from Star Wars.
I am going to share my adventure with you.
3. I went to Chico,
California in
September.
Chico is 210
miles north of
Cupertino.
It takes about
3.5 hours to get
there by car.
4. Chico is in Butte County. It is a small
city with about 90,000 people.
But it has a big
city park –
Bidwell Park,
which takes up
17% of the city!
5. Bidwell Park has over 3,600 acres and is the
24th largest city park in the country.
6. This is the Wong family. They live in Chico.
They are Adrian’s family friends.
Wai-hung
Mason
Louise
7. This is the Chico State University.
Wai-hung is a professor at the University. He took me
to work so that I could sit in his class.
8. This is Marie, the
secretary of the
Philosophy
Department.
I think I may
want to be a
professor when I
grow up.
9. Butte College is a community college for Butte
County. It has a satellite campus in Chico.
10. Louise is a reference
librarian at Butte College.
She took me to the
college library where she
works.
Wow, the library is ready
for Halloween!
It looked a little scary. I
took a deep breath and
went in.
11. This is Amanda. She is
a student assistant
working at the library.
She showed me the
reserve books for
different classes. In
college, students have
to buy their own
textbooks. Some of
them can’t afford to
buy the books, but
they can use the books
at the library.
12. I never thought that
I would find a coffin
in the library!
It’s so cool that I
decided to sneak
into the coffin to say
hello to the skeleton
there!
13. This is the Enloe Medical Center – the only
hospital in Chico.
Mason is a
volunteer there.
Every Friday
after school, he
runs errands for
the doctors and
helps patients
with their
needs.
14. I met with other volunteers. Like Mason, they are
high school students. They are cheerful and fun.
15. There are not many Chinese in Chico, so there are no
Chinese grocery stores here. Chinese in Chico will go to
Sacramento or the Bay Area to buy Chinese groceries.
The Wongs’
friends just
returned from
San Francisco
and brought
them Chinese
roasted duck
and Chinese
vegetables.
16. This is the Farmers’ Market. It opens every Saturday
morning. Locals like to buy fresh vegetables and
organic food here directly from the farmers.
