Agri-tourism: as it is defined most broadly, involves any agriculturally-based operation or activity that brings visitors to a farm or ranch Culinary Tourism: It’s not just about eating fancy foods or drinking fine wine. Culinary Tourism is a reflection of a sense of place for a region. When you have this “sense” people will travel miles to experience it..

  5. 5. Why Do Culinary Agri-Tourism? It’s weatherproof It’s year-round It’s hands-on and personal choice Anyone (who is creative) can incorporate into their “positioning” Customers want to buy “it” at least three times a day!

Simple Ideas to Get Involved Serve or sell your local wine or increase choices to serve and sell Purchase and use locally grown products in recipes and promote that you do so on your menus Partner with local attractions, restaurants, shops to create an overnight package with a culinary theme

Simple Ideas to Get Involved Add a culinary twist to an existing event or better yet have a culinary event Add a “featured” recipe to your website Work in partnership with others to develop culinary trails or themed itineraries Develop your “signature” item. What do you cook that you are the only place that you can get it? The word will spread!
  9. 9. Simple Ideas to Get Involved Name your foods for local “things”—a Harper Ferry Burger or a Daniel Morgan Salad. Reinforce the “sense of place” Edutainment – can you make your presentation a show? When you drop off your brochures, take the frontline staff a taste of your “Signature” food- they’ll be your best ambassadors.
