  • 4.  Some 6000 years ago, in the Middle East, some Neolithic villages became important cities as a result of agricultural and commercial prosperity. These civilizations were the first to invent writing. PROF. MARILUZ MALDONADO RODRÍGUEZ. JUNTA DE ANDALUCÍA.
  • 5.  Writing appeared in Mesopotamia over 5,000 years ago. This invention was so important that it marks the end of Prehistory, and the beggining of History. Writing was a way of storing information about taxes, trade and population. PROF. MARILUZ MALDONADO RODRÍGUEZ. JUNTA DE ANDALUCÍA.
  • 6.  The first great civilizations appeared around 5,000 years ago. They are Mesopotamia, Egypt, India and China around 5,000 years ago. They are called the river civilizations because they developed along large rivers surrounded by fertile land.   • 8.  The king was the most powerful person. He made laws, led the army and often had religious functions. The kings were served by civil servants, and they created large armies. PROF. MARILUZ MALDONADO RODRÍGUEZ. JUNTA DE ANDALUCÍA.
  • 9.  Society was hierarchical: it was divided into clearly differentiated groups.
