How to Stop Texting Addiction: 4 Effective Steps
__________________________________________________________________________

Texting isn’t a sin and so isn’t eating chocolates and watching cartoon movies on
TV! But don’t you often stop your child from eating too many chocolates or
spending too much of time watching cartoon stuffs on TV?

The reason is simple – too much of anything is dangerous, even if it is adding
sugar to coffee or extra cheese on pizzas. Texting is turning kids into typing
machines; they just don’t leave their cell phone nor do they like to receive any of
the voice calls or mails. The only way to communicate to them is to send them a
140 to 160 character messages on their cell phone inbox or through one of the
popular chatting messengers they have on their cell phones in case they have one
of the technically smart modern devices over the less-smart feature phones.
And like every other thing with which you use the word “addiction”, you can use it
with texting too. So, if you find your child to be guilty of being a TV addict,
chocolate addict, gaming addict; you can also find your child to be guilty of being
a texting addict and you seriously need to STOP this kind of addiction getting
deeply ingrained in your child before it is too late.
But what can you really do?
Check out how further reading this article can help you in this!
Below you have some of the important steps to take which will surely help your
child in breaking away from the serious craving for texting!
Put off all the free or cheap texting plans and tariffs and unlimited Internet Data
Usage
The biggest reason behind such obsession for texting as is commonly found
among the kids and the teens is that texting proves cheaper than other kinds of
communication. And with hundreds of chat messengers and texting related apps,
a child only needs an Internet connection, which can easily be accessed anywhere
with the help of Wi-Fi connectivity and latest smart phones.
If your child has a smart phone, make sure you have locked the Wi-Fi connectivity
at home and the phone has limited Internet data usage plans. And at the same
time both for the feature phones and smart phones, disallow cheaper texting
plans and tariffs.
Set a strict cell phone usage budget including the texting part
So, your child has a smart phone that provides remarkable access to Internet? Or
else, it isn’t a smart phone but has great Internet usage facility on it? In both the
cases, one simple step will help you stop your child from over using the cell phone
and Internet usage facility and limit the annoying habit of texting all the time! It is
to “Set a Strict Budget!” So, tell your child how much money you expect him to
spend on the cell phone usage and make him stick to it. Best way to do it is to get
a pre-paid plan that stops your child from using the phone after a limit.
Disallow cell phone usage for certain time- period especially when the textingchances are more!
Sometimes kids are fine with the rules that parents set for them. They don’t mind
following them till the time parents are really present to supervise them. They’ll
not text while at the dinner table; or when you’re addressing them but once the
parents are not around, they are in their true colors! If your child is of this kind,
he won’t be texting in front of you and you’ll never get to know how heavily he
texts. Best for such kids is to disallow cell phone for certain time-period like at the
time of doing homework or preparing for exams as these are the times when kids
need to concentrate on their studies whereas cell phone eats away all their
attention. Another such time is late at night: at bedtime because once you’re
asleep you’ll never know if your child ever went to sleep or spent the whole night
chatting through the text messages.
Track cell phone usage to know how much your child is texting
Even after setting rules and disallowing phones for certain time span, your child
can make out time for texting and play smart in hiding his real texting habits from
you! To know these hidden truths of your child, you need to track your child’s cell
phone. You can always install a special app for the purpose and keep an eye on
every single digital activity that your child participates in. Your app will not only
let you know about your child’s text chatting and chatting over other chat
messengers but will also let you know about all the other usage details such as
call logs, mailing, downloading, video viewing and various other Internet
activities. Using a technically advanced app will even make it possible for you to
stop certain digital activities like downloading, and app usage.
With these smart and easy steps you can easily stop your child from texting
addiction!
