  2. 2. <ul><li>AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH </li></ul><ul><li>TO CARBON OFFSETTING </li></ul>SINCE THE CREATION OF THE DANONE FUND FOR NATURE IN 2008, DANONE HAS BEEN TESTING NEW APPROACHES TO CARBON ECONOMY BY SUPPORTING DIFFERENT PILOT PROJECTS RELATED TO BIODIVERSITY RESTORATION, CARBON SEQUESTRATION AND FIGHT AGAINST POVERTY. DANONE IS NOW WILLING TO INVOLVE OTHER PARTNERS IN ORDER TO CREATE THE LIVELIHOODS FUND.

LIVELIHOODS FUND <ul><li>Investment Universe: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Projects of restoration and ecosystem protection generating carbon credits </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Managed by local communities with the support of a seasoned project developers </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Already implemented as pilots and replicable on a large scale </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Investment areas: restoration of natural ecosystems & mangrove, agriculture and agro forestry, small scale rural energy </li></ul><ul><li>Geography : Africa, Asia and Latin America </li></ul><ul><li>Volume: ~18 projects, divided in ~7-10 programs of 2 to 4 projects </li></ul><ul><li>Project financing: €1.3 to 1.6 million per project </li></ul><ul><li>Investment period : 4 years </li></ul><ul><li>Term: 25 years with possible exit in year 10 </li></ul><ul><li>Size : €30 to 50 million , to generate 6 to 11 million tons of carbon credits during the lifetime of the fund </li></ul><ul><li>Carried interest for local communities. </li></ul>

AN INITIATIVE SUPPORTED BY DANONE <ul><li>As an investor in Livelihoods Fund, Danone seeks to OFFSET THE CARBON EMISSIONS of some of its products through INNOVATIVE and EXEMPLARY projects </li></ul><ul><li>Danone wants to associate INVESTING PARTNERS in its approach to : </li></ul><ul><ul><li>POOL resources </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Reach the CRITICAL SIZE to launch the Fund </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>REDUCE the project RISK profile through diversification </li></ul></ul>
  7. 7. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS FOR AN INVESTING PARTNER ?

CARBON OFFSET PROJECTS WITH DOUBLE BOTTOM-LINE <ul><li>FINANCIAL PROFITABILITY OR CARBON OFFSET </li></ul><ul><li>The fund will generate carbon credits valuable in different ways: </li></ul><ul><li>Either with a view to offset carbon emissions and build social equity: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>For €10 million invested in the fund, on average 2.0 to 2.3 million tons over time, or ~85,000 to 100,000 tons of carbon per year </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Either with a view to financial profitability by selling carbon credits on the market </li></ul><ul><li>CONSISTENT APPROACH FOR AN INVESTING PARTNER </li></ul><ul><li>Livelihoods can enable a company to propose carbon offsets, either for its own account (i.e., become a “carbon neutral” company) or for its clients (i.e., offer “carbon neutral” products or services) </li></ul><ul><li>Livelihoods will be one of the sole global platform on forestry-linked carbon, whilst the importance of forestry-linked carbon finance is looming in international negotiations </li></ul><ul><li>Given strong co-benefits of Livelihoods for local communities, the fund creates a new way to work with local communities and authorities in developing countries </li></ul><ul><li>Livelihoods offers great opportunities for corporate communication, external and internal </li></ul>
