Vermont was the 14th state to make its way into the United States. After Vermont became a state it was named “Vermont” which is French for Green Mountains. They named the state after Green Mountains because it has so many huge mountains.
After battling in the French and Indian War, Ethan Allen lived in Vermont. As the Revolutionary War began , he gathered the Green Mountain Boys and some Connecticut troops and helped obtain a British fort in Ticonderoga. In Ethan Allen`s later days he got captured trying to take Montreal .
Vermont is one of the smallest states, it is the fifth smallest state, but that doesn’t hold the people back. A lot of people go there because of the skiing. Vermont’s population is about 625,741.
