Name of Journal/ Article Art Practice as Research in the Classroom: A New
Paradigm in Art Education.
Authors Julia Marshall and Kimberley D’Adamo
Volume Sep 2011; 64, No.5
Pages 12
1. Overview
This article is about how Art can’t make something more interesting subject to make or
being done at the classroom. It show how practice can’t be connected to Art and how
the connected between the Art Practice and the research.
Based to the article also, Art Practice in and research are new media for learning or new
knowledge that has influence in the research of art education since Elliot Eisner has
being suggested it at the year 1970s (Barone, 2006; Cahnmann-Taylor, 2008; Sullivan,
2006). Since it has being introduced the theorists and researchers have being generated
a substantial bogy of theory and experience that can’t support and also expend on the
Eisner claim.
Base to the article, this combination of theory and practice also can’t create a good
foundation for art practice or research in the art education to create a strong case. Base
to the art practice in research or art-based research many has agree that this kind of
knowledge can’t make a big transforms for a research.
From the article, the new knowledge it also telling how the new type of research is
being born as a practice research that can’t being using for art education base to the
research process that include creative, non- verbal ways to understanding a subject.
Based to the article, framing art as research present a new vision of art practice is
making art to be understood to be less about producing aesthetic object and images and
to create more to exploring a topic or idea. Art practice as research mostly related to
the artwork and it was part of the process; it is not stand - alone artistic expression but
instead a research text, visual image with pedagogical or research function (Leavy, 2009)
This article also has mention that art practical is linked to the research in other
disciplines and it most being see to employ processes that has similar to the research
practices in the other field (Leavy,2009;McNiff,2008;Smith&Dean,2009; Sullivan,2010).
Based to the article, Art Practice- as - Research in Classroom is a good way to learning a
art base to the they practice and the way they explore it by using research workbook to
create a experiment and play with the idea that they create to make a good themes
base from the artwork that they collect.
Base to the conclusion from the article, it tell that Art Practice-as-Research is being
success when it has being use at the Berkeley High School, the student can’t understand
and the learning is more interesting
2. Description of methodology
The research was has being held at the Berkely High School and it was being take place
in the school’s IB art program and the teacher that in charge is , Kimberley D’Adamo.
The IB art program was a program base on the art – based research and IB’s is more
focus to the independent, thematic art-based inquiry (IBO, 2007).
In this class D’Adamo was able to develop a full art-based research model, with the
teaching strategies models with student artist/ researchers and it learn about and also
practice art-based research. During the activity student will record and map their
research process and with the items they will develop to create workbook.
Most of the research are involved all the student at Berkely High School and most of the
student was a art student of D’Adamo and the research was being heal inside the
classroom at the school.
Purposes of the research are to know are the student can’t carry the art research in the
classroom and how they develop the idea thru the research that has being held inside
the classroom. Most of the analyses are base on the student experience.
3. Evaluation
The authors are successes in the research at have being held at the school and the
student can’t carry the research very well and also at the same time they create a
creative workbook to impress they creativity.
I agree with this article, with create are environment like research In the classroom
the student are able to create a creative art work base on the research that they
made and collect thru the workbook.
Thru the program that has being done by D’Adamo in the classroom the student is
come to understand that research and thinking was a part of the art-based research
in the classroom to create a batter understanding in the art work.
4. Discussion of implications
In this article the implications of art practice is about how to create a research based of
art in the classroom to make the student develop a mind thinking while create a art
work base the research that they collect by making art process.
With the statement from the article, I strongly agree that art practice should be part of
the art research, with the combination this kind of method the student are more
understanding in making the quality of art base the principle of art by making a
workbook before making a art.
They was no wrong if, the art research is being done in the classroom because with the
research that has being make can’t the understanding about art process are batter and
at the same time the mind of the student will create a batter creativity in making art.

I agree with this article, with create are environment like research In the classroom the student are able to create a creative art work base on the research that they made and collect thru the workbook. Discussion of implications In this article the implications of art practice is about how to create a research based of art in the classroom to make the student develop a mind thinking while create a art work base the research that they collect by making art process. With the statement from the article, I strongly agree that art practice should be part of the art research, with the combination this kind of method the student are more understanding in making the quality of art base the principle of art by making a workbook before making a art.
