 Plan and measure for the gate.
 Dig the hole and concrete the
post in.
 Build the gate frame.
 Check gate fit and hinge
placement.
 Put hinges on post and gate
and check it opens and closes
OK.
 Put tin on gate.
 Put bolt lock on.
 Padlock gate.
 You need cement, stones and sand.
 You need to mix 1:2:3
 Put it all together in a wheelbarrow.
 Slowly add water and mix well! Lewis says
“don’t make it too runny or too dry”.
 Dad says “its just like making a cake”.
 I will now demonstrate making concrete.
 A chemical reaction called hydration
(combining with water).
 Water reacts with the cement to glue the stones
and sand together.
 It gets hot and hardens in 1 or 2 days. It is
really strong in 3 or 4 weeks.
 It has been used for thousands of years to build
things, like dams, bridges, buildings and
statues.
 It can last for hundreds or even thousands of
years.
 It can be made different colours.
 Bugs (bacteria) can be used to make it stronger.
 Concrete is used on missile launch pads.
 It is like an artificial (man made) rock.
