  • 2. Virtual Field Trip FAQsWhat is a Virtual Field Trip? A virtual field trip is one that happens in the comfort of your classroom, library or auditorium via the power of live video. How can I participate in the LifeSize Virtual Field Trip series? First, you need to register for the events so we can send you the proper information for each trip. Once you are registered, you will receive an email containing all the details for the trip. There are 2 ways to participate: Via the web live stream and via a live video conference call. What is the cost of the LifeSize Virtual Field Trip series? The series is absolutely free. We simply ask that you register for the events in advance. Why is LifeSize providing these free events? First, we want to offer great, free content to our current customers. Second, we want to spread the word to all our education friends about the power of video in the classroom. Finally, we want to raise awareness within schools about Grant Services, which can assist schools in purchasing LifeSize Video Equipment FREE OF CHARGE using federal and state grants. In order to take part in the field trip and actually interact with the presenters over video, you must have a standards- based video conferencing system. Unfortunately services like Facetime, Oovoo, etc. are proprietary software platforms and will not work with our video equipment. However, LifeSize video equipment is standards-based so we can interoperate with other vendors that also practice open-standards. If you’re ready to pursue grant funding to purchase a system for your school so that you can participate this way, you can contact our Grant Services Department. 1) Register for the trip. Visit http://www.programs.lifesize.com/content/VFT_Subscribe for a list of all trips. Current trips will have links to register for them. 2) Check your email for the confirmation containing information on how to dial in. (please add communications@lifesize.com to your safe senders list) 3) Within the confirmation email will be a bridge number that will look something like this: 555.555.555.555##1004. Dial that number on your video conferencing system and it will put you into the conference with the presenter. 1) Register for the trip. Visit http://www.programs.lifesize.com/content/VFT_Subscribe for a list of all trips. Current trips will have links to register for them. 2) Check your email for the confirmation containing the link to the live stream site. (please add communications@lifesize.com to your safe senders list) 3) Simply bookmark the page, return on the day of the field trip, and watch the entire event live on the web. You can use the controls at the bottom right of the video to enlarge it and cycle through the layouts. We’ve had hundreds of people who did not have video conferencing equipment watch the live streams of the events and we’ve received great feedback. There will be presentations that are useful for anyone to watch and even the interactive parts are very visual to keep the students engaged and entertained.Don’t forget, if you currently don’t have video conferencing equipment, you can talk to our Grant Servicesteam about possible grants to help with your purchase or visit: http://www.lifesize.com/Industry_Solutions/Grant_Writing_Assistance_Program.aspx
