4. Theme or focus of images
The photographer Steen Doessing shoots fascinating fine art landscape photos as like
the 5 photos I found most interesting from his range. My favourite in particular is the
bottom landscape picture of the trees and the light gazing through the clouds I like
how he uses most common objects look so surreal and interesting to look at. The
photos above seem like they are taken so simply but to get the perfect photo it takes
time and consistency so I think he waited for the perfect point in time for the clouds
to break and let the light crack across the field. The chosen photographer Steen
Doessing is French so I think that the pictures are taken somewhere in the France
region possibly. I don’t know exactly the date or time for these pictures but by the
looks of the weather my guesses would be around the autumn to spring time of year
but I’m not sure as it’s hard because there shot in black and white.
Composition
I think the photographer chose to have certain objects in the picture weather it was
in the distance or straight up front on the picture. On one photo in particular I think
maybe the photographer had zoomed in to block out any unnecessary light, people
or objects that could potentially effecting the outcome of the image. For the bottom
one I think the photographer has zoomed into the certain trees he wanted in the shot
to exclude any other trees or any other objects killing the shot. On one photo the
photographer has stood directly mid centre when taking the photo which looks good
because both sides of the pier look completely I identical making it seem like a
reflection.
Techniques used
Think shutter speeds, rule of thirds & depth of field
The selected photos have all been taken or edited into black and white so it’s hard to
see how bright the environment was when taking that photo. On this photo I think
there was already a lot of light coming through into the photo as you can see the
sunlight breaking through the clouds so the shutter speed wouldn’t have had to be
on for that long because there is already enough natural light coming into the
picture. Considering the ISO used in the photo it looks like it was taken using a high
ISO because the picture looks so bright but I think the photographer adjusted the ISO
to make the picture look not to over expose but just right to keep the black and white
balanced. He uses depth of field a lot in his pictures for example the photo taken on
the beach with light house has been taken from an angle pin pointing those two
5. objects being the main desire of the photograph. By doing this he’s took it using a
high depth of field to blur out the background which isn’t much wanted to create the
objects to stand out and show that’s what the photo is focusing most on.
Strengths & Weaknesses
What you do and don't like and how it can influence your work
What I like about the photographs is that although they are all black and what and
not much use of interesting colours but still stands out and is eye catching. I think this
photographer and his photos can influence my work by inspiring me to shoot some
ordinary objects but by using the technology and skills to affect them making them
look better than what they seem in person. But what I don’t like is the black and white
I think just a little colour would really bring the photo together and make it stand out.
