Video games may have started off life simply enough as Pong, but things have changed a bit since 1972. Video games have since evolved into a new art form that combines painting, writing, sculpture, music, storytelling and cinematography. The Smithsonian honored this new art form in 2012 with The Art of Video Games, highlighting the interplay of graphics, technology and storytelling. Here are the 20 most interesting and compelling color palettes from the games deemed some of the best ever created. Interestingly, from a color-palette perspective, it's easy to see how runway-ready many of them are & styled to go.
