About SWPS • established in 1996 in Warsaw • one of the largest non-public university-level institution in Poland • offers a variety of study programmes at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate level in major academic disciplines in social sciences and humanities • committed to the highest academic standards as well as to transfer of practical knowledge and skills • committed to international academic cooperation

Academic values and partnership • member of the Conference of Rectors of the Polish Academic Schools (KRASP) which is an association of the leading Polish universities and other higher education institutions • member of a number of international organizations, among them EUA - European University Association and Observatory of the Magna Charta

Science in practice • SWPS has been one of the first non-public higher institutions in Poland to receive regularly a substantive, competitively allocated public grants for its own research projects • each year SWPS scientists and researchers are able to obtain various national and international scientific awards and research grants
  9. 9. Innovative research projects Examples of some research projects undertaken at SWPS: • Providing an Infrastructure for Research on Electoral Democracy in the European Union. Seventh Framework Programme, FP7 - PIREDEU • Growing up at Greenpoint: Electronic media, identity transformation and new horizons of expectations in the community of immigrants • EU Kids Online: Using internet by kids: threads and opportunieties • Education challenges in the Internet era • Intercultural group as a buffer in the process of adaptation: Research on the acculturation of foreign students in the EU member states • Research on the contemporary Islam At the moment 35 of our own research projects are being implemented Since 2000 when we obtained the first grant fourty nine different research projects have been completed

International Center for Complexity and Conflict - ICCC • sister center of the International Center for Cooperation and Conflict Resolution at Teachers College, Columbia University • dedicated to applications of complexity science to the study of conflict • integrates theoretical and empirical work using laboratory studies, computer simulations and network analyses as research approaches • develops knowledge and practice to promote education, using new tools based on computer visualizations and simulations for its pedagogy • closest collaborators: Peter Coleman , Director of the sister Center at Columbia University Robin Vallacher, Florida University Andrea Bartoli, George Mason University, Washington

Education without boarders • participation in the Erasmus Programme and Atlantis Programme • 60 bilateral international agreements with leading foreign universities, science organizations and research institutions • Chinese Service Centre for Scholary Exchange of the Ministry of Education has recognized SWPS as a legitimate higher education institution to recruit Chinese students • 181 international students at SWPS in academic year 2009/2010
