These really are the two most important trends in communications – technology and end-user behavior Technology: Broadband adoption and wireless adoption – both are growing quickly all over the world. In many parts of the world, there is limited/no wireline infrastructure, so voice services are essentially wireless. In these markets, mobility will be the channel for voice as well as broadband, and the two will co-exist as equal partners in the network. In short.... Mobility = convenience Internet = content Content + Convenience = Value for the end user Mobile Internet is the best of both worlds – synergistic, not additive: 1+1=3 End-User Behavior This is shifting control from the network to the subscriber – they want personalized services that they can customize, anywhere, anytime Need to deliver services where the end user is – mobile, PC screen, watching TV, etc. – must operate seamlessly across multiple network environments End users have many alternatives for wireless broadband services – if service provider cannot meet their needs, they can easily go elsewhere Subscribers are no longer willing to let the network dictate what they can and can do. They expect the network to adapt to what they want to do.
