  • 3.
    • (about Peerie) : ‘’God knows what filthy thoughts will swarm and spawn beneath that cap’’ – This shows how Charlie perhaps views people that are ‘not as good as him’.
    • ‘’ Hanging to one bush, like an obscene fruit, was an object, the most disenchanting on earth: a contraceptive.’’ Charlie is absolutely shocked by this discovery and cannot believe that Canada Hill has perhaps the same standards as Donaldson’s Court.
    • ‘’ I wish we could have had you with us for a few days longer.’’ This shows Charlie is trying to break it to Tom gently that he has to go home, but when Tom can’t accept the news, Forbes has to use a more forceful tone. ‘’There’s no sense in taking up this attitude, Tom...You’ve had a good week out of it.’’ This seems to show that Charlie is trying to push Tom away.
    • ‘’ For Christ’s Sake, leave me alone.’’ This is when Tom has finally stood up to Gillian, Tom is just emotionally broken at this stage.
    • ‘’ wondering in what way she could help him.’’ Gillian has changed her attitude towards Tom, she knows he’s not the villain she thought he was, she wants to help him now.
