    2. Why Learn About This Stuff? • Well, it doesn’t take a genius to know that it is important to know what our students are doing, and how they are communicating, socializing…well, just plain existing nowadays!
    3. Give it to Us Straight • Student’s frequently use the Internet for socialization & entertainment • With students spending an average of 6.5 hours utilizing media forms (including TV, video games, and the computer) per day, and 87% of 12-17 year-olds using the internet, students are coming to college with their online personas as a very important facet of their personalities (Hempel & Lehman, 2005)
