    • We can use some verbs to describe upward ( ) and download( ) movements in price, quantity and amount.
  • 2. Intransitive verbs (verbs which do not have an object)
    • Increase rise go up
    • Decrease fall drop
    • go down decline
    • Ex.: The population of the world is increasing .
    • The prices of electronic goods have fallen .
  • 3. Transitive verbs (verbs which have an object)
    • Increase raise
    • Decrease reduce drop
    • Ex.: The government has increased income tax.
    • We have reduced our prices by 10 per cent.
  • 4. These corresponding nouns can also be used:
    • an increase a rise a raise (US = increase in salary)
    • a decrease a fall a drop a decline
    • a reduction
  • 5. Practice
