There were over 30 years of discrimination against Tamil before the Tigers even existed. Where were the LTTE when the 1961 Satiagrahi was crushed by mobs? It is not simply a one sided story of the LTTE victimisation of others. Tamils are angry because of the way they have been systematically disenfranchised from their rights to exist as equal citizens of sri lanka. This is the root of the problem and needs to be addressed.
As a Tamil I apologise for the mis-directed work of the LTTE and all the hurt and pain they have caused!
But are the Sinhalese people willing to come to the north and examine the suffering the SL armed forces have inflicted on the Tamil people? More to the point will the government let you? Recently 37 Sri lankan MP's were denied access to the safe zone. Why? If the government are above disrepute - why won't they let observers in to see for themselves? What have they got to hide?
As much as many Tamils dislike the LTTE, they are more afraid of the SLA and in truth they have good reason to be. This terrible war has taken our most capable young people and turned them into killers. That in itself is a tragedy that we must mourn together!
I won't explain more. We Tamils need to be ready to see the damage Tamil militants have done to Singhalese families and communities, and ask for your forgiveness. It would refreshing if you were to do the same.
Then just maybe we can move on as a country and leave this dark chapter of our history behind, at last. 3 years ago Reply
