LAMA SURYA DAS
Meditation is a natural function of the human mind. We are
innately clever and curious beings. It is a part of being human to
ponder about ourselves and about life. All societies are occupied
with meditation and there are numerous strategies for
practice. Meditations of all kinds work because they all arise out
of the same body mind spirit system. They all need to depend on
the natural tendencies of the body and mind to experience deeper
comfort, happiness and joy.
Natural meditation is the approach that consists in attempting,
here and now, to feel the benevolent presence of the divine and to
behave in conformity with the nobility prompted by that
sensation. A genuine and right meditation is constantly simple,
natural, universal and easy to practice. Natural Meditation is
purely, resting as natural, choice less, effortless, silent and
mindfulness.
2. Purely means natural meditation is not hard or difficult. It is a natural, easy
way of being.
Resting means you are not endeavoring to change or get done with
anything. You are just resting, permitting everything to be as it seems to
be.
Effortless means you are not attempting to be anything or anybody, nor
getting anything going or not getting anything happening. You
acknowledge and welcome everything as it may be, including yourself and
your contemplations, emotions, and encounters.
Choice less means you don’t need to pick one thought, feeling, or
experience over another, nor think or making sense of anything.
Silence means resting as the hush out of which everything emerges and
to which everything returns. Silence is the wellspring of all there is.
Silence is what is. You are this silence.
Mindfulness permits everything to be. Mindfulness is comprehensive. It is
an ultimate connection of all and everything. You are easy mindfulness
and this is valid under all circumstances. Just rest as mindfulness, mindful
of itself.
3. STEPS TO PRACTICE –
1. Sit comfortably either on a seat having an opposite back or sit on the
floor on a mat, as you prefer. Ensure that you are sitting comfortably in
order to avoid needless actions during Meditation.
2. Keep your head and back straight but be simple, calm and relaxed.
3. Lock your tongue and lips i.e., do not move your tongue and lips
because Meditation is absolutely a mental procedure.
4. Now, breathe in and breathe out profoundly around 10-15 times i.e.
take full breaths.
5. Now, close your eyes softly and comfortably (don’t open your eyes till
you finish the procedure of Meditation).
6. Now, effortlessly and comfortably center the consideration of your mind
at the spot between the eyebrows (i.e., at the connection point of nose
and eyebrows) and repeat the word “Shanti ” again and again only
spiritually, without moving tongue and lips, with easy and trouble-free
concentration, for around 30 minutes.
4. 7. Leave Meditation following 30 minutes and slowly get into
your activities.
