1. 1. History of Video Games
By: Keenyn Halsey
2. 2. Start of Games
Fact
Early games used interactive electronic devices with various display formats. The earliest example is from 1947—a "Cathode ray tube Amusement Device" was filed for a patent on January 25, 1947, by Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr. and Estle Ray Mann, and issued on December 14, 1948
Picture
3. 3. The evolution of games (Part 1)
The evolution of games started in the 50’s and progressed really well. The main maker of games from the 70’s to the 90’s were, Atari, Sega and Nintendo. They created Some really hit games of there time like, Super Mario Bros. from Nintendo and Sonic the Hedge hog made by Sega.
4. 4. The evolution of games (part 2)
Then the 2000’s came along with new creators like Sony who created the PlayStation 1,2 and 3. Sony also created the best hand held system the PSP (PlayStation Portable).
There was Then Microsoft who made the Xbox and the Xbox 360 Which created there hit games like Halo.
Nintendo was still around making handheld systems and there other console releases like the Gamecube and the Wii.
5. 5. Sony’s side
The PlayStation was One of leading game system’s of it’s time which came out in 1994 which is usually called the PS1. Then they came out with the PS2 which is the Leading game system as of today with 100 million copies sold as of January 2010. Then there latest creation called the PlayStation3 Which is mainly a family system that has the capability of playing Blu-Ray disks and also feature’s free online play. The PS3 has sold about 47.3 million copies as of December31 2010.
6. 6. Microsoft’s side
Microsoft have created the systems known as the Xbox and the Xbox 360 Which aren’t that great (my Opinion). The Xbox is selling at around $299.99 and the online has to paid for which cost’s $60 and the controllers use external batteries unlike the PS3 controller’s which are easily charged with a USB adaptor. Also XBOX sells wired controllers with the same design but without the battery pack in the bottom of the controller.
7. 7. ’s side
Nintendo originally started in 1889 as a card company and progressed really well into the 1900’s and released there first major system in 1983 called the familycomputer or shortened “Famicom”, But in north America called the Nintendo entertainment system more commonly known as the NES. They are also known for there handheld devices called the Gameboy which wasn’t that great. Then in the 2000’s they released the GameCube and the Wii. They also created the more successful handheld called the Nintendo DS, DS stands for (Dual Screen) which made popular the Touch Screen, Which led to more sales.
8. 8. Huge Game Series(PS3)
In the ps3’s side of hit games there are the Ratchet and Clank series that was released in 2002 for the PS2.
There is Uncharted which won game of the year for 2009 .
There is the God of War series which was released for the PS2 originally.
The last one is the KillZone series which was originally released for the PS2.
9. 9. Huge Game Series(XBOX)
The hit games for XBOX is the Halo series Originally released for the XBOX original
There is the Gears of War series.
Also there is the Fable Which came out for XBOX original.
There is Forza1,2, and 3.
10. 10. Huge Game Series(Nintendo)
There was the Mario series which is probably the most known game character known in the world.
There is the Legend of Zelda series.
Sonic series which came out for the Sega but is owned by Nintendo.
And there is the Super Smash Bro’s. series.
11. 11. Huge Game Series(Multi-Platform)
The Battlefield series which is now a major competitor for the best selling games.
Grand Theft Auto series which was the Best selling game of 2007-2008.
The Best selling game franchise to me is the Call of Duty series Which has competed for game of the year many times and won with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
12. 12. Call of Duty or CoD is one of the most played game series as of today. This game has good single player and amazing Multiplayer. There are two different makers of this game which is treyarch and infinity ward. Infinity ward started the series on PC then later moved on to the consoles and handhelds. In 2008 they reached the 55 million sale mark and earned $3 billion dollars. Treyarch is also famous for there add-on called “Zombies” which has a huge storyline to it.
13. 13. Zombie’s
Call of Duty’s zombies is what most people buy call of duty world at war and Call of Duty black ops. There are maps from world at war that are in German called “Nacht der untoten” which is the first map and translated means “night of the undead”. There are three other ones that are named Zombie verruckt, Shi no numa, and Der reise.
14. 14. Competitive Gaming
Competitive Gaming is a big thing in Modern Gaming. Competitive gaming is so big it is sometimes broadcasted on television and live- streaming websites. MLG (Major League Gaming) is one of the things people join to become a competitive gamer and earn lots of money. You could earn up to $0 - $25,000 in online competitions. Most tournaments are hosted in big American cities such as Dallas, New York, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles.
15. 15. Future Gaming
Games of the future like 5-10 years from now will be really cool. The Gaming producers are aiming for virtual reality. Microsoft are getting new game makers and starting to produce a new system, which should ne released in 4- 9 years. Sony have already start thinking about how the new PS4 should look. Nintendo is already starting there production of the Wii 2 which is supposedly to be released in 2012.
