Vicki Robinson’S Murder

 1. 1. Vicki Robinson’s Murder
 2. 2. Overview

Vicki Robinson and her 15-year-old daughter, Valessa, are reported missing

Six days after their disappearance, Valessa Robinson and Adam Davis -- along with 19-year-old Jon Whispel -- were arrested after a high-speed chase on Interstate 10 in Texas. The next day, Mrs. Robinson's body was found in a garbage can in woods a few miles from her home.

 3. 3. Suspects

John Whisple

Adam Davis

Valessa Robinson

 4. 4. Preliminary interviews

Vicki's boss and Jim Englert (her boyfriend)

A: Vicki and her daughter had “differences”

Adam’s supervisor at Denny’s

A: Last saw Adam on the previous Friday afternoon

John’s assistant manager at Papa John’s

A: confirmed that she had seen Jon on Friday evening; he had left with Adam and Valessa

John’s mother

A: Had no idea where Jon was but “whenever Jon got into trouble,” he seemed to be with Adam. The last time she'd seen Jon was Friday afternoon.

 5. 5. Investigation

Search the house in Carrollwood:

-Everything was clear

-No signs of anyone being in the house

Some”special findings”

-Searching through the drawer of a desk in Valessa's bedroom, the detectives found letters written to her from the Hillsborough County Jail. The letters were not from Adam, but from someone named Jon Whispel.

 6. 6. Interrogations

Valessa Robinson

A: Did not know what to tell them. She had no idea where her mother was, she said. After 10 minutes, she finally broke: "I stabbed my mom," she said.

Adam Davis

A: Like Valessa, Jon and Adam drew maps showing where to find Vicki's body. Yet, he said, all three of them killed Vicki; but he had done most of it. He was the one that injected the bleach.

John Whispel

A: About the murder, he said that Adam did it. His detailed testimony of where they went is better explained in the following map

 7. 7. The Evidence

The ATM card was the most promising lead

Security cameras

Cigars/cigarettes (DNA, saliva)

Blood spatter on door

Wiped blood on floor found by using luminol

Hairs

Bloody towel at Valessa’s house

Tire tracks

 8. 32. Trial

Prosecution: pointed out clear premeditation. Also, Valessa did not “finish” killing her mother, but was a principal, which means just as guilty as Adam. Tapes of Valessa admitting that she stabbed her mother were presented

Defense: claimed Valessa lied about stabbing her mom to protect Adam. What she really did was just hold her mother down. Also, the public defenders used demonstrative evidence to prove how Jon Whispel was in the kitchen instead of Valessa and accused him of lying. However, prosecution showed a video shoot that proved otherwise.

Two days later…

 9. 33. The Verdict

Adam Davis

First-Degree Murder - death

Armed Robbery – time served

Grand Theft Auto – time served

Valessa Robinson

Third-Degree Murder – 15 years

Grand Theft Auto – 5 years

Jon Whispel: plead guilty , 25 years total for all crimes

Second-Degree Murder

Third-Degree Grand Theft Auto

Grand Theft Auto
