Siemns facts august 2013

  1. 1. Lindsey Wilson College Energy Savings Performance Contract Fun Facts for Student Awareness August 2013
  2. 2. Energy Savings Performance Overview  LWC contracted with Siemens for a campuswide energy-efficient facility improvements.  Almost $2 million of improvements installed, which will generate up to$228,000 of energy and maintenance savings annually.
  3. 3. A Look at the Savings  Energy-Efficient Lighting: $39,000  Occupancy Sensors: $5,800  HVAC Controls: $67,500  Variable Frequency Drives: $8,400  Low-Flow Flush Valves: $16,000  Low-Flow Shower Heads: $13,800  Low-Flow Faucet Aerators: $9,000  Power Management Software: $6,000  Other: $61,000
  4. 4. Energy Efficient Lighting Installed:  8,304 fluorescent lamps for interior lighting  3,047 electronic ballasts  Reduces lighting energy consumption by 15%  Annual energy savings: $39,000
  5. 5. Occupancy Sensors for Lighting  Installed 170 occupancy sensors  Reduces lighting energy consumption by 20-40%  Annual energy savings: $5,800
  6. 6. Building Controls for HVAC  Installed networkable building control systems for Heating, Ventilating, and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) equipment in eight buildings  Installed programmable thermostats in 14 additional buildings  Will allow for the implementation of various energy management strategies  Control of fume hoods in laboratory spaces Annual energy savings: $67,500
  7. 7. Variable Frequency Drives  Installed 17 variable frequency drives across campus. Locations include Lilly and Richardson Halls; Fugitte Science Center; Holloway Health & Wellness Center; Turner Leadership Center; Slider Humanities Center  Variable frequency drives optimally control pump motors and fan motors at their most efficient operating point  Typical applications are hot water and chilled water pumps for heating and cooling and supply and exhaust fans for ventilation Annual energy savings: $8,400
  8. 8. Low-Flow Flush Valves  Modified 295 toilet flush valves and 70 urinal flush valves to optimize the flush sequence and eliminate unnecessary water consumption.  Reduces water consumption in toilets by an average of 30%  Annual energy savings: $16,000
  9. 9. Low-Flow Shower Heads  Replaced 291 shower heads with low-flow showerheads  Reduces hot and cold water consumption for showering by an average of 30%  Annual energy savings: $13,800
  10. 10. Low-Flow Faucet Aerators  Replaced 573 faucet aerators with low-flow, pressure independent aerators  Reduces water consumption at sinks by an average of 50%  Annual energy savings: $9,000
  11. 11. Power Management Software for Campus Computers  Installed on 780 campus computers  Provides IT energy management of networked computers  Reduces electric consumption  Annual energy savings: $6,000
  12. 12. Other  Installed energy-efficient windows in V.P. Henry Auditorium and Everett Building  Negotiated a more favorable rate structure for several buildings and athletic field lighting  Moved Cranmer Dining & Conference Center water heating from electric to less costly gas  Installed attic insulation in the L.R. McDonald Building, Goodhue Academic Center and Everett Building  Annual energy savings: $61,000  Work will qualify for more than $20,000 in rebates from the Kentucky Utilities Co.
