  • 2. Film Series’ MissionIn its sixth season at the Ossining Public Library,the monthly Thursday evening draws between15-25 regular participants. It is one of the mostpopular series at the library. Together we watcha film and afterwards with a moderator, discussthe legal issues presented in the film.The series’ mission is to get the community tothink about relevant legal issues that may ormay not affect them. We select only greatcinema, past and present.

Film Series’ Objectives• To increase community involvement at the library about relevant political and/or legal issues that may or may not involve them• For an audience to grow in diversity• To get all participants involved in discussion• To create a forum where different opinions can be freely and respectively expressed• To take a poll on the legal issue at the end of the discussion What follows are some of our films and a clue to their discussions.
  • 4. This was one of our mostpopular evenings.Engaging an attorney orinvestment professional totalk about regulations insecurities trading is a greatway to provide exposure.
  • 5. Engaging local authorsin the discussion is agreat idea to grow acrowd.
  • 6. The state of Tennessee,for example, just madethe teaching of“intelligent design” legal.It is more fun when issuesare relevant – especiallywhen tied to such greatfilms as this one.(Nominated four timesfor an Academy anduses real trial transcripts)
  • 7. This is a wonderfulopportunity for familylawyers to talk about “no-fault” divorce and what itmeans.
  • 8. Here, an environmentalactivist and/or attorneymay be interested inmoderating.
  • 9. Excellent opportunity foran employment lawyerto discuss work placeissues – and the newrole of social media inthe workplace.
  • 10. Finally, some humor.This is actually a great filmabout the importance ofexpert witness testimony.
  • 11. Spot the legal issue!This film came atthe end of one ofour seasons. Wewere surprised bymany of theobservations.
